Matti Posio is responsible for producing and editing two Sunday magazines, supplements to the celebrated Tampere-based daily Aamulehti (literally, 'The Morning Paper'). During his 2010 InJo Fellowship he is hosted by the Hearst Newspapers' Washington D.C. Bureau.

In 2006 Matti helped create and launch the Finnish paper's twin Sunday magazines that represent an innovation in the field of newspaper journalism. They aim to widen a traditional newspaper’s footprint and repertoire in two sometimes overlapping, sometimes contradictory directions. One -Asiat(Matters)- delves into news and background articles with features, columns and straight talk with decision-makers. The other -Ihmiset (People)- offers human-interest stories about various personalities, from the next-door neighbor to the stars. The magazines have an estimated 280,000 regular readers, Aamulehti’s weekend circulation being 140,000 in a country of little over five million.

During his fellowship in the United States, Matti has focused on innovation issues such as social media mindset, technology's impact on people, society and journalism. In his view, the set of values that we know as journalism is even more valid and crucially important now, with the internet slowly taking over from paper. He says Google and Facebook, paradoxically, are the two biggest gamechangers for journalism at the moment, and that's why journalists need to study them carefully.

Matti has a wide range of newsroom experience. During his two decades in professional journalism Matti has worked in the Culture, Media and International News sections of Aamulehti and its web service. His area of special expertise as a reporter and analyst for ten years was Russia and the Former Soviet Union. In 1999-2001 he served in Moscow as a correspondent for Aamulehti and the Finnish economic and business daily Kauppalehti, working together with the Baltic News Service's Moscow bureau.

He is a graduate of Tampere University with Journalism and mass communication, International politics and Linguistics as main subjects. Matti also has an authorized translator’s degree in Russian. In addition to Finnish, English and Russian he is fluent in the German, Swedish and Estonian languages.

His personal interests include literature, sports and radio documentaries.
